August 2007
We visited Uncle Bob and Aunt Joanne in Waterford, MI. On the way we stopped at Cumberland Falls in Kentucky, and camped out at Boonesborough State Park. In Michigan, we also spent a couple of days at their Cottage on Lake Huron. Bob and Joanne were kind enough to drive us around the thumb area to visit the family farms, and places where Janet's relatives had lived.
We then followed the east coast up to Mackinaw City. We were going to spend the night there, but prices were sky high due to the fact that it was Labor Day weekend, so we went further north and camped out at a state park. A little further west we visited Big Spring and historic Fayette State Park. Around Munising, we visited five waterfalls and Pictured Rocks National Monument. We also visited Tahquamenon Upper and Lower fall be fore returning to Mackinaw City, where the room rates were now very reasonable.
Mackinac Island was a fascinating place from somewhere else in time, due to the fact that cars are not allowed and people and goods are all transported by horse carts. It rained all morning the day we were there, but we still had a good time and walked around the island most of the day.
