September 2007
After visiting the cottage on Lake Huron, we took a brief tour of the Upper Penninsula of Michigan, and then spent a couple of days in the Mackinaw City, Mackinac Island area.
Mackinaw City's main role appears to be as a staging area for travelers to Mackinac Island. It has a quaint main street with a zillion fudge shops. We found excellent pizza, and a clean quiet place to stay for $50 a night. The trick is to visit just after Labor day. During Labor day weekend, the prices were significantly higher.
